This is a good, quiet clock!
Why is it that all over the web it’s hard to be sure if you’re getting a quiet clock without a lot of research? Even then you don’t really know what you have until you get it. I wish there was a universal description for quiet clocks, as in “quiet sweep action” or “very faint tick” or “standard loud tick”.Plus some reviewers aren’t helpful because some don’t know they’re half deaf! Because of what I’ve done for a living (recording engineer who doesn’t use really loud speakers), my hearing and sense of detail is reliable. I can hear a wristwatch alarm in a room almost to the opposite end of the house from where I am. I say all this as I really can’t stand listening to “tick tock” while I’m focusing on work, I find it irritatingly distracting.I needed something for the kitchen with a design that was reasonably appropriate. Sometimes I have to use the kitchen table as a workspace. This has a silvery bezel, black face and the hands and numerals are very light green, as they are luminescent. But you won’t likely be using that feature, as they don’t glow very much at all after being exposed to typical kitchen lights. But I didn’t get it for that. The good news is that you can’t hear it tick until you put it within a foot of your head, and even at 3 inches from your ear, it’s quieter than a typical loud clock at 30 feet. So this is a winner for me. Size is about 11.5 inches, give or take a quarter inch. The outer portion of the bezel is offset from the rear by about 1.5 to 2 inches, which is to say the bezel is not flush with the wall. Worked out great for me as mine overlaps the top of a door sill perfectly, so I didn’t have to move the nail that was there previously.I highly recommend this clock as one suitable for average space, though not for an “elegant space”, but it still looks better than a clock from a school wall! Very visible, very quiet.

It’s a ticking second…a very quiet one
This is a ticking second wall clock. There is no mention of it anywhere in the description. However, this is one quiet ticking second clock. This is my second Seiko ticking second wall clock. The MRSP for the 1st one is twice as much as the one in this review. Mainly due to the wood frame. The movements themselves are probably the same since both of them were made in Thailand.Compare to other “silent” sweeping second clocks that I recently bought, these ticking second clocks from Seiko is much more quiet. You can’t hear it unless you are inches away from the clock (compare to feet from those “silent” sweeping second ones). I think those silent sweeping second movements from off-brand or unknown brands are cheaply made thus, very noisy. Plus, the overall workmanship of the both of my Seiko clocks are world apart compare to the 2 silent sweep clocks I bought (and returned). The lesson is unless you like the design and going to put those “silent” sweeping second in anyplace but the bedroom, they can be good additions. Otherwise, good brandname like Seiko make much, much better wall clock.Edit: The lume for this wall clock is very good. It is not illuminated so you have to lower your expectation regarding its brightness. I will last for hours though.

quiet, sleek, and functional
Pros: This clock is indeed quiet: barely a sound. The numbers are big and easy to read from any angleCons: The heavy plate-glass cover piece blocks pretty much all the high-energy light that might charge the phosphor, so the thing really doesn’t glow all that well. I tested this by blasting it with a standard household 405 nm violet laser, which barely made it through the plate despite being powerful enough to point out stars at night. The obvious solution is to remove four screws and throw the cover plate away. I was planning to do this in the morning, but unfortunately, the weight of the thing tore the mounting hook off the wall, falling all of two feet onto the wood floor and shattering the plate, so I got to spend a lovely late night vacuuming shards of glass off my kid’s rug. With the glass removed, the clock actually looks a lot better, plus the laser can charge it reasonably well. The phosphor is still pretty weak, though it does last a long time. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with the purchase.

Great Wall Clock For The Price
I love this wall clock. It’s got a nice big face with large numbers which makes it very easy to read. It isn’t noisy at all (almost didn’t order it because of the reviews saying how noisy it was). I love having the second hand as well. Seiko also provided the battery for the clock so I didn’t have to go battery shopping. The only thing is that it really isn’t luminous. It glows somewhat but it’s definitely not easy to read the time in the dark. All in all though, this is a great wall clock and I’m glad I purchased it.

Gorgeous, easy to read, but ticks
I bought this clock for the bathroom wall, to be easily visible from within the shower. It is extremely easy to read from a distance, and a very classy look as well. Definitely suitable for other rooms. I used the battery that came with it (after reading other reviews) and the nighttime brightness of the numbers makes it easy to read even in the dark. I’d be head over heals ecstatic with this clock, except for one thing. It ticks. It’s not horribly loud, and you wouldn’t notice it during the day, but when it’s quiet out, I can hear this clock from 10 feet away. It’s not an obnoxious tick, but it’s a tick. It’s fine in the bathroom or in a public room like a kitchen or living room, but I personally wouldn’t have it in a bedroom. What I really want is an atomic clock, with a silent second hand (no ticking), that looks like this and is made by Seiko – because my experience with Seiko timepieces is that they are flat out the best. Since they keep such good time, even though this isn’t atomic, it is good enough. But that ticking…

Doesn’t glow in the dark
The clock works just fine, and it looks decent on the wall. However a key reason I bought this specific clock was because it supposedly how’d 8 in the dark – this is not the case. When there’s no light in the room, you can’t see the clock at all, and this is street having been near light for 8+ hours.Overall, I’m disappointed in the purchase since it did not meet a key criteria of mine

I was after a plain but not cheap-looking replacement clock with a black face and Arabic numerals. The choices were limited and I went with this one (for $70 and change) because of the Seiko name, and the promise of a “metallic case”. This clock looks quite nice, but it feels cheap and lightweight. The movement is made in Thailand and the remainder in China. It keeps good time, but so does a $5 clock from K-Mart or Big W. It may turn out to be super reliable clock, but I feel like I’ve paid at least $25 for the Seiko name.

I was hesitant to buy this wall clock because my previous clock (from Wal-Mart) stopped working after a week. I returned it and bought this one.I trust the Seiko brand but didn’t know if this was the real deal or a knock-off until I received it.It’s the real thing, the clock works after a month and I know will continue to do so for the next ten or more years.Seiko is a reliable and high quality brand, I highly recommend this clock.
