Well made, secure, somewhat easy to install
Bought two of these locks with the goal of no longer needing multiple keys and to also just create a entry code for contractor and pet sitters (which can later be deleted. One lock was installed to replace an existing deadbolt. After removal of the existing cylinder the hole was large enough for the new Kwikset lock. The deadbolt backset is adjustable and simply turns to extend or shorten. The installation instructions have pictures of each step but the text is arranged around each picture in blocks. Thus it is easy to miss an important note. For example, the backset has the word “up” engraved on the it. I missed this and installed it upside down. It took me a while to figure this out because the cylinder screws would not screw into the the cylinder. It’s worthwhile sitting down first and carefully reading the instructions first. The other step that is difficult is attaching the pushbutton module which has to be held on the door on one side while holding a faceplate on the opposite side and then inserting two long screws through the holes. It helps to have a second person for this step, but not necessary. Make sure the pushbutton module is aligned properly before moving onto the next step. I didn’t realize that it was slightly crooked until I completed the installation and had to unscrew parts to align properly. The hole in doorjamb was also not previously drilled deep enough. The Kwikset lock sounded an alert when I tested the locking mechanism. I removed the strikeplate and simply drilled the hole deeper with a 1 inch drill bit.The second lock required a new hole to be drilled. I purchased a drillbit set that included the bits required including the large hole saw. The Kwikset lock includes a template for multiple depth backsets. Drilling instructions are available on the Kwikset website and were easy to follow. It’s recommended to drill the cylinder hole from both sides. It’s important to make sure that when you are drilling the cylinder hole that the hole saw bit is level and straight. The strike plate and backset require some chiseling so make sure you are comfortable doing this. With a sharp chisel it’s not too difficult.Make sure to follow the door “Handing” procedure. Which is to hold the lock button before inserting the battery pack. The Kwikset lock mechanism determines which side of the door the lock is installed on and auto adjusts. The Rekey steps were simple and both locks now use the same key, which is really just a backup since the locks open with a keypad code. Ordered Kwikset Smartkey entry knobs and deadbolts for two other entry doors on our home, that are infrequently used in order to have the same key for every lock. The keys light up when pressed. However, without my reading glasses I discovered that I could not see the numbers printed on the keys. There are only five buttons for the digits 0-9 configured as 1-2, 3-4, 5-6….Overall, the locks look great and they definitely are well made and feel secure.

Great price, very easy installation, works great
My wife recently got a new car and it has one of those fancy push-to-start ignition switches so she can leave her key can in her purse. Unfortunately, she still needed to fish her keys from her purse in order to lock the deadbolt to the house, so I hunted around for a solution. This keypad-based deadbolt seemed to have decent reviews and we’re a Kwikset house, so I figured that would make the re-key easy. I was going to wait until our budget could take the hit, but on the first product page I saw, Amazon told me that there was a newer version available and much to my delight, it was less expensive than the first one I found!I ordered it and — thanks Prime! — several days later, it showed up at our house.I found a PDF of the installation instructions online, so I skimmed that and watched a couple of videos — one appeared to be from the manufacturer and the other from a carpentry guy — to get the lay of the land.Fortunately, we have a pretty standard house when it comes to our doors, so fortunately, I encountered exactly zero surprises during installation. (I have a nifty ratcheting screwdriver with swappable bits and for some operations during this installation, that arrangement didn’t work as well as a plain-vanilla Phillips screwdriver, so I ended up needing to use both, but no additional tools. I was tempted to get my drill/driver, but it was really unnecessary. Maybe if I was installing a dozen of these, but for one, a regular screwdriver should be totally sufficient.)Removing the old deadbolt was very easy and for installing the new one, I just carefully followed each of the steps in the installation guide and ran into no trouble.Programming the access code was very easy, as was the SmartKey thing (which was part of my long-standing hesitation in buying a keypad deadbolt; I knew I’d need to cough up another wad of money to have a locksmith key the lock to match the rest of our keys — so that SmartKey feature sealed the deal on this one).I tend to be very slow and careful when installing these kinds of things and I think that total install time for me was like 30 minutes. The only “non-standard” thing I needed to do was to adjust the backset of the latch for our door. (I didn’t even know what that term meant when I first skimmed it in the instructions, but it was just literally turning one part of the lock 180 degrees to make it fit — all described in one step in the installation instructions.)My wife got home a few minutes ago, so I showed her how to unlock the door from outside and she seemed pleased with how easy it’s going to be (and how she won’t have to fish for her house key in her purse again!).Bottom line: Great price (especially since I didn’t have to call a locksmith for a re-key), totally painless installation, and it looks like it will meet our needs perfectly.I’m hoping that I get 9-12 months out of each set of 4 AA batteries, so if it ends up being a lot less than that, then I’ll circle back here and update this review, but other than that possibility, I really don’t have any concerns and would buy this item again in an instant.

Easy to Install and Works
The lock just works. Nothing special about it. It does what it’s supposed to do. Setting and changing codes is pretty easy. Highly Recommended.

We’ve only had it a week and so far it’s a great lock. Was super easy to install, took less than 10 minutes because we already had a deadbolt. I just took out our existing deadbolt and was able to put this in its place. Setting up passcodes was also very simple. Seems secure. It has the option to toggle on and off the small flashing light, which shows if it’s locked or unlocked, also the “beep” sound and the auto-lock after 30 seconds. I wasn’t able to rekey because the key I wanted to use wouldn’t fit the lock, but the instructions to do this looked pretty straightforward. Some reviews mentioned cold weather issues, I guess I’ll have to wait and see. I did use lithium batteries that say they are rated for very cold conditions, just in case.

Vino un cerrajero a instalarme la cerradura. Llevo 3 meses usándola y es muy práctica. Se cierra sola y eso deja la menta tranquila. Jamás me ha fallado el acceso.

Excellent product, I live in Canada, we had -40 C for 2 weeks and it worked perfectly. Great value too, even though it has a metal casing for the outside keypad, but a plastic casing on the inside of the door. No big deal, it works great highly recommend.

I replaced my original front door lock with this one when I lost the key. Works exactly as expected. Very easy to install. I am using rechargeble batteries and have not needed to replace them in the 4 months since I purchased. Just went through some very cold and freezing rain conditions and locked worked just fine. The only thing missing is a function to delete temporary codes. The lock supports up to 8 different codes. As is, to delete a code I need to overwrite that code with the main code I use myself. Not the most conveninent, but it works.
