Excellent Clock and a Great Value
The clock arrived last week and we are extremely pleased. Looks nice, built from solid wood, nothing “cheap” about it. No assembly required. Just take it out of the box, hook on the pendulum, and hang it up.BATTERY – One “C” battery drives everything — clock movement, chime, and pendulum. Supposed to last up to a year. April 2017 Update — The “C” Battery that came with the clock is STILL RUNNING after 15 months. The CHIME is the main battery drain, not the clock or the flimsy dummy pendulum. My Chime LOUDNESS is set Mid-Way – a louder Chime uses the battery up faster.PENDULUM – Cosmetic only. Swings back and forth (battery-driven) for appearance, but is unrelated to the clock’s timekeeping.CHIIME – Every quarter-hour. Adjusts with a volume control, and quieter probably results in a longer battery life. Chime sounds very nice but is not fantastically “rich”, which is to be expected for a small clock such as this. I also have a Grandfather Clock with a REAL chime, which is tough to reproduce electronically. Giving a 10 to the Grandfather clock, I’d rate the Seiko chime as a 7.ACCESS – Nothing in front opens – not the glass over the clock face nor the transparent panel down over the pendulum area. All controls are on the back – chime selection, chime loudness, and clock time setting. The pendulum gradually starts by itself.INSTALLATION – The clock comes with a small metal eye loop at the top rear, which I’ve attached to a sturdy picture hanger to support the clock – nothing else. [ With the clock in place, the eye loop is not visible.] They send you a screw for supplementary attachment somewhere below, but I haven’t used it. This way, I can easily lift the clock off-and-on to make adjustments in the back. By being supported only at the top, you can swing the bottom back-and forth to help start the pendulum and get the clock exactly vertical so the pendulum swing is symmetrical (right-to-left)..

Schoolhouse Clock is Beautiful at a Reasonable Cost
This clock is very attractive and the mix I wanted: octagonal frame, roman numerals on the clock face, a pendulum, dainty hands, and chimes. We replaced a very similar looking old plastic clock with this one. The Seiko clock has a glass face, so there is some reflection on it from other lighting in the room. The clock uses one C battery that is included. The clock face has a white, rather than antique looking background, so the picture is accurate. The color is a little darker than it showed on my computer screen, but I was happy with it. As other reviewers have stated, the volume knob is accessed by removing the back, as is the time knob. This makes getting it adjusted and back on the wall without losing time a little tricky. The biggest problem I have is with the chimes. I have adjusted them probably 8 times in the week I have had it. Because I sleep in the room it is in, I can’t have loud chiming at 5:45 a.m. I have not found a chime adjustment yet that is audible yet soft enough I can sleep through it, but I will keep adjusting until I do. The chime is off from 11 p.m. until 5:45 a.m. Because it is so hard to see, it’s difficult to tell where you are moving either adjustment to. I don’t know who decided to make everything black on the knobs where you can barely see what you are doing, but that is something that manufacturer should remedy. It’s not seen otherwise, so no need for it to be so hard to work with! Oh, I should mention that I anxiously met FEDEX at the door when they brought the clock, fearing they would toss it down on the porch, and was happy to be home at that time. But the clock was well packaged and protected. It couldn’t survive crushing, but for ordinary transport it was well protected and would have survived a toss. There were various pieces that were taped (I think I remember removing one twist tie, not sure) but it was still pretty easy to assemble. Save your box and packaging in case there is any problem so you can ship it back since it is so perfect for the clock, but it’s not likely you will have a problem.

Seiko Wall Clock.
This clock is great. Some people say the sound is not that good but I think therings and music before the rings is very soothing. You can not have the volumeall the way up or it does not sound right. You need to set it around 5 and it isvery good. Keeps perfect time once you get it set exact, So far this clock meetsall expectations and really exceeds them for the price you pay. It looks great. The major problem with the clock is that all the controls and settings are in theback of the clock. You have to remove a back plate to get at them. I wanted toget it exact to the second and the only way you can do that is pull the batteryout (slightly on the top) and watch another clock hit the exact hour you haveset and push the battery back in as fast as possible. Setting the hands is hardbecause the dial to set the hours is very small and hard to move so you can notget an exact time setting without pulling the top of the battery out and pushing itback in when the time hits what you have on the clock. But once you get itexact it does not lose any time.I give the clock 5 stars because the sound and time is great. I would drop itdown because of the controls but once you have the clock set to the exacttime and sound you want in terms of the volume you should not need to getat those controls until you need to change the time for daylight savings. Onceagain at that point you will need to go through the time setting tipping thebattery out for a few seconds to get the exact time.

I’ve revised my rating down to 2*. It’s a lovely clock but not the quality I was expecting for £316, nor the Light Oak colour of wood. But what makes me sick is days after paying £316 on Amazon I saw its price was now £275, and I’ve since found it elsewhere for as little as £199. In my estimation, I think this clock is about £200-250 worth
