Customers say
Customers like the brightness and wakefulness of the product. They mention it has four levels of display brightness, which goes down as dim as they like. Some also like the design. However, some customers have issues with buttons accessibility. Opinions are mixed on whether it works well, is easy to use, and provides good sound quality.

Naughty Chicken –
I have 2 different models and love them both. Works for kids too!
About 2 years ago, my family and I moved a lot further North than I had previously lived. I bought the older model, the HF3470, to help me wake up in the winter darkness. It was wonderful. Now, my 6 year old daughter has been having a very hard time waking up in the mornings for school (we have to get up at 6:15 to get them there in time, and starting in late September, it is still dark at that time). So I bought the new light alarm clock for myself and gave my old HF3470 to her.I am a huge fan of BOTH models. Right on the very first morning that I set the alarm clock in her room, she was up when the alarm went off. No complaints about how early it was, no dragging her out of bed, just an easily awoken child! We haven’t even been late to school because I don’t have to harass her for 30 minutes to get her going. It was like magic. She is using the light only (no sounds) with a loud clock radio across the room (so she cannot snooze the sound, even if she turns off the light!). It is easy enough to operate that my 6 year old can turn it on and off and use the light. (I did set the time and alarm for her, adjust the brightness, etc).I am also loving my new HF3520 model. It’s true that the light at first is very red, then rather orange before it gets bright white. While this is not accurate to a true sunrise, I actually appreciate the color change because when I rouse before the alarm has gone off, but when the light has already begun lighting up, I can tell by the room’s redness that it is not time to wake up all the way yet. I don’t have to be facing the clock nor do I have to check the time. I like that! With both light-clocks, I have had them on my nightstand beside my bed, right at my eye/mattress level. My husband works swing shift so he often needs to sleep in, while I need to get up and get the kids ready for school and get myself off to work. I really appreciate that the alarms are unobtrusive enough to let him stay asleep, while still waking me up. The first morning I used the new clock, I had it set at brightness level 20 (max setting), and it DID wake him up (which is great to know for times we both WANT to get up at the same time). I set it to level 12 for the next morning, and it has been plenty bright for me and has not woken him since. After 2 years of listening to it, the birds tweeting on the old clock was starting to get on my nerves (but it was better than radio, the other option), but I haven’t had the new clock long enough to say whether or not that will happen to me with the new sounds eventually. I was pleased, though, that the bird sounds on the new clock are different than the old clock, and I like the other sounds well enough too.The ONE problem I had with the HF3470 (the bigger, older model) is that the buttons are stiff and the device is light-weight, which means when you go to push the buttons along the front of the device, the whole alarm pushes back. So I end up pushing the device across the nightstand, but the buttons won’t click. I had to use two hands: one to hold the device still and the other to push the buttons, until my husband brought me a rubber place mat and put it under my clock. Then it had enough grip to stay put while I was pushing the buttons. This is a minor complaint, though, considering how much I love that clock (and how well it has been working for my daughter!).The new clock does not have the issue with the buttons, which are more like a touch screen and nothing actually pushes inward at all. When I move my finger near the “buttons” on the front, little lights come on showing me where to press for each button (helpful for setting the alarm in the dark). When I withdraw my finger, the lights turn off. I had fun playing with that. It can sense me coming! I like the dimmable display and even though it cannot be turned all the way off, the lowest setting is plenty dim.In conclusion, I have 2 different models, and both are wonderful. I would buy either one again without hesitation. I prefer the large toggle switch on the older model for snoozing and setting the alarm because it’s so easy to find, but either clock is great. If money is an issue, get the cheaper one and you still won’t be disappointed. The upgraded light colors, buttons, style, and sounds of the newer model are great but might not be worth that much of a price difference for many.

Waking up is much more enjoyable
I really didnât believe the reviews saying that this changed the way people wake up, and they wake up feeling better and ready for the day. I was just looking for an alarm clock, and thought I would give one of these âsunriseâ ones a try. This thing is fantastic. I usually wake up to the light when itâs about halfway on, (I have it set to go from dark to fully light in 20 minutes) and rarely do I let it get to the actual audible alarm (at the 20 minute mark). When it does hit the audible alarm, I have it set to birds chirping, and it is a great way to wake up compared to the ringtones on my phone. My heart still races when I hear certain ringtones… This alarm clock looks great, works very well as a reading light that doesnât disturb my wife, and displays the time dim enough to not light up the room hardly at all. All in all, it is one of the best purchases I have made. Completely worth the money spent to wake up more gently.

Great, once you figure it out.
I’ve had this wake-up light for about 2 months, and my overall impression is that it’s great. With that being said, there are definitely some things to note if you plan on purchasing this item.1. Why is it so much more expensive than the other wake-up lights out there? As far as I can tell, what you’re paying for is the fact that the light starts a deep orange, and fades into a brighter white. The cheaper versions of this light (by Philips and others) only have the white light. The orange does create more of a “sunrise” feeling that the other lamps likely do not. I would guess the technology to have this lamp make the seamless transition from orange to white is why the cost is so much higher. Otherwise, the features seem to be mostly the same from model to model.2. Are the controls really as confusing as everyone says in the reviews?YES. I am pretty tech savvy, and have all kinds of complex gadgets around the house. However, this one tested my patience. The interface and all of the controls are not very user friendly. There is no way you would successfully set this lamp up without the user manual. (and even then, the manual can be a bit confusing) There are bunch of settings that require tedious menu scrolling to figure out. Including the time the alarm goes off, the length of time it takes for the light to get to full brightness, and how bright you want the light to be (on a scale that you have no frame of reference for… how bright is level 20? How dim is level 1? Will it be bright enough to wake you up? You won’t know until you try). After you’ve figured out all of that, you’ll need to decide which sound you want to wake up to after the light has reached full brightness. There are five options, and once you choose one, you’ll have to pick a sound level (Again, on a weird scale. Seems like 1-10 is pretty universal, but no…they’ve gone with 1-20 on this one as well) There are other options you can adjust as well, like the fall asleep timer, which dims the light from full brightness to off in a pre-determined time you’ve chosen in the menu. (again, lots of scrolling and confusing levels)With all of that being said… once you have figured out your preferred “wake up profile,” turning the alarms on or off, or changing the time on the alarm is pretty simple. It’s all of the steps leading up to that point that are tricky. Once I settled on my particular wake-up profile, it’s been pretty easy to use, and I love not being startled awake by a loud sound. I always wake up before the sound starts playing, which is nice.Another thing to note is the snooze function. There is no snooze button to press. It says to just tap on the front of the light. However, you’ll need to figure out the right amount of force to make it snooze. Too light, and nothing happens. It must be based on some sort of vibration, because I’ve found that even if I smack the table that the lamp is on, that also activates the snooze. Something to know about the snooze: It only snoozes the sound, not the light. You can turn off the light, and the sound portion of the alarm will still work in snooze mode. They are separate functions, and don’t really impact one another. You can set the time it takes the lamp to get to full brightness between 20 and 40 minutes. Which means that your lamp will be at full brightness by the time you have the alarm set for. If you have the length at 30 minutes, and your alarm is set for 7am… the lamp will start to turn on at 6:30am, and slowly light up until 7am, at which point, the sound will begin playing. You may also find that you are waking up at a certain point in the lamp’s brightness, and it may be earlier or later than you want. If your lamp is set to be at full brightness at 7am, you’ll likely be awake before that. Which, you might not want. This is a personal preference thing, and takes some time to adjust and get used to.Overall, this wake-up lamp has really made getting up in the morning easier. The gradual light fading from orange to white has never startled me awake, and I find the slow process of being gently awoken to be refreshing. The choice of sounds that play at the end of the alarm are nice, and soothing, and not jarring at all. (you can also use the radio, but I haven’t done that). This light was expensive, but I’m glad I bought. Yes the controls are a pain to navigate and figure out. But, once you’ve got that all set it’s pretty easy to use. I have no idea what would happen if the power went out… if I had to re-learn how to set this all up again, I may go mad. I recommend this lamp, but know that you’ll be in for some complicated set up.

Well maybe it helps that i’m using it either just the work week or everyday. I’ll start by saying this item has a steep price especially if you have never shopped for similar products and your impression is “it’s just an alarm clock”, however after using this I feel it is totally worth it and I’m extremely satisfied having bought it on sale. Also it has been around a month I’ve had this product. Let’s get in the thick of it :Main features :-whole wake-up light thing: As advertised you set a time and set a sunrise time. The sunrise time is how long before your alarm goes off the product starts emulating a sunrise i.e alarm clock set at 6 am and sunrise time is 30 min : at 5:30 the sunrise starts and at 6 the alarm starts accompanied by the max brightness setting you chose. Basically, it’ll start with very deep red all the way to searing of your eyes **insert spongebob patrick meme** (by which I mean this lamp gets really bright) white light with your alarm going off. You choose how bright you want it to be so you can tone down the whole searing your eyes part to satisfaction. I personally have trouble getting up and thought I might as well try this product to remedy the getting up part and it has helped immensely. It has happened to me multiple times in my past few week to wake up BEFORE my alarm goes off. I’m waking up just to the light and it feels awesome with minimal drowsiness and with a state of rest that i’m able to get up. There is no zombie like wake up part. Works for me just as advertised. Also, there is a demo mode so you can see in accelerated mode (90 seconds) the sunrise from deep red to white with the alarm sound/music of your alarm. To snooze you just touch the front part pretty much anywhere and it will snooze.- overlooked sunset feature: This is by far my favorite feature. You set a time between 5 and 60 minutes(available options : 0,5,10,15,20,30,45,60) for your sunset. You set the initial brightness to adjust again the whole searing eyes part. It then goes in reverse order of sunrise from white through orange then red till off. The red is really deep and I got slightly scared the 1st time it felt like my room was suddenly out of the shining or Dexter being covered in blood. The best part is it really triggers you to fall asleep. I’ve also a lot of trouble falling asleep and this really eases me into drowsiness without drugs regardless what I’m doing (in my case reading). Also, it helps get to bed on a more precise time. In my case I’d usually try and read to fall asleep and i’d just end up reading for hours and not falling asleep or going to sleep really late. With this, well it’s time to go to sleep when there is no more light since it goes completely off (time display remains on) and I’m usually real sleepy by the end of the cycle. I honestly love this feature more then the wake-up. It give a limit on your bedtime routine and I really like that.Other features: The product obviously offers regular options 2 alarms, sounds or fm radio(no am if i remember correctly), 12h or 24h time display and awesome rubber feet to keep it on your table. Honestly, those rubber feet have serious traction i.e i have a train track nearby that usually shakes the hell of everything on my bedside table, this lamp doesn’t give a s*** about it and stays firmly in place.Downsides (or what I’ve read) : I read quite a bit online to see if there were any glaring issues with the product. What I’ve found :-button placement hard to find: FALSE, the buttons are placed on the edge of the product so looking directly at the product(like looking at the time display) you can’t really see them since you would only be seeing the height of the button/ travel distance of the button. It’s true you have to grope around a little to find the correct button but I don’t feel this is a problem. 1. they are well spaced (see pictures) 2. the buttons that are grouped up (radio and brightness) have a high ridge separating each button of the group so you can easily distinguish the different buttons (see pictures with 3 buttons close up).-12h to 24h switch complicated: FALSE, the manual that comes with the product has extremely clear instructions of how to change it between 12h and 24h setting.-disappointing waves (sounds): TRUE, this is the sad one. One of the available 5 sounds that can be chosen instead of the radio, is supposed to be waves/ocean sounds. It actually is more of seagulls squealing with a little bit of waves in the background. However, there are 4 other choices which you should be able to find something to float your boat (satisfaction).Final thoughts: The display has various brightness settings that can make it very dim. The display menu to set alarm/clock time/brightness/etc. is very easy to use the only tricky thing can be to touch the buttons (capacitive) which sometimes doesn’t register your touch or you’re not pressing the adequate location, but it’s not something I usually play a lot with since I dont constantly change my settings. Also, it usually takes 1 failed attempt to get a good feel of where to press so it registers on all following attempts. Also, I wouldn’t recommend using this as a night lamp replacement to read from a book. I feel the light it shines is too diffuse. Don’t get me wrong the light can get very bright but it’s all over the place so to read from a book(paper) using only this product as lighting may require some fancy footwork or positioning to get the right angle to have enough light. So, this product has met everything specified by the manufacturer, the manual is crystal clear, everything works as advertised and it works for me. I highly recommend this product if you have trouble going to sleep / waking up. This product has no marketing scams that I have found. If it goes on sale buy it and enjoy!

I was a little bit nervous about ordering this item because of the price but, in the end, I was glad I did. I’m not a morning person and I’ve woken up, every morning I’ve used this, with no problems at all. I use this as a radio, a light in the dark, and as an alarm clock. This is a great product and you get the quality you’re paying for.Pros:Alarm clock works very wellSunrise alarm, and sounds can be used together or aloneLots of customisationVery bright at full power, but dimmableGood sound quality on the radioLooks greatCons:Rolls easily if you try to slide itMenu takes a little bit of getting used toNo battery back upI had mixed feelings when I took it out of the box but I plugged it in and ran the test mode (If you hold the alarm button (1 or 2) it will give a 90 second demo of how your settings will be (this helps you to see the settings you used for the brightness and volume). I didn’t know if the extra money was worth it for a few extra features and light colours. Now that I’ve been using it for a while, I know it was worth it.I love having 2 different preset alarms. I use one for work days and the other for any other time I need to get up. Some people find that they don’t wake up at the time they set but that’s not the case for me. I instantly wake up when the birds start singing (my audio alarm sound). I do always set my phone alarm in case there is a power outage or in case the alarm doesn’t wake me for some reason (It’s waken me up with only 3 hours and 5 hours of sleep though). I tend to set the light and volume buttons lower, and angle the light a little bit so that it won’t wake my wife. Although that doesn’t work, she would wake up to a regular alarm clock anyways. The sunset feature to help you fall asleep is great! I set it to 10 minutes and I’ve only ever had one issue…. I’ve never seen it the whole way through! To be honest though, I do think it’s great. The different shades represent the sunrise/sunset beautifully and sometimes I’ve set the sunset just because of how nice it looks. The radio has great sound, and since we don’t have a traditional radio, we use it all the time. We get clear crisp sound, and get all the stations without any issues. Since there are no presets, it takes you a little bit of time to change the channel but this is primarily an alarm clock. Adding buttons for the radio feature would take away from the simplistic look of this light. It has a great and simple look to it. The rubber feet on the bottom provide great grip to keep the alarm clock still. The rubber feet are also an issue though. If you’re trying to slide it over with one hand the feet will grip and the alarm clock will want to roll. This is not a normal issue but something to keep in mind if you’re holding something in one hand and try to slide it.All in all, this was a great buy and well worth the price (even though it is expensive for an alarm clock). Even knowing that there are cheaper and older models out there, I would buy this one again in a heartbeat! If you’re on the fence about buying this give it a chance! You won’t regret this purchase.
